Eco-Smart Solutions for Electronics

Expecting to find a new TV or cell phone under the tree this year? When it's time for "out with the old and in with the new," it's not just a matter of getting the latest eco-smart products, but also getting rid of your end-of-life electronics in responsible, earth-friendly ways.

A Greener Sony

Sony Canada has expanded its recycling program to include all of its products - making it as easy as to recycle Sony products, as it is to purchase them!

A Greener Sony

Building on its commitment to the environment, Sony of Canada Ltd. partnered with service provider, Global Electric Electronic Processing Inc. (GEEP), to expand its recycling efforts to collect all end-of-life Sony products. The processes used by GEEP ensure products are recycled in an environmentally responsible manner.

Green tip

As a key design goal, Sony products are uniquely presented in packaging that protects both the product and the environment. Manufactured from recycled carton paper, vegetable based plastics and VOC-free vegetable based dyes, the packaging uses the minimum amount of material required to safely handle products.

"Sony Canada's goal is to divert all Sony products from the landfill," said Doug Wilson, President & COO, Sony of Canada Ltd.

Sony Canada offers customers three new ways to return their Sony products for recycling.

  1. IN-STORE: Sony handheld electronics are accepted for recycling - at no charge - at all Sony Style retail stores across Canada. This includes camcorders, cameras, Walkman personal stereos, PDAs and cordless phones. Sony Style stores also accept portable rechargeable batteries and cellular phones for recycling, and offer a Notebook Trade-in Program. See the Sony Style store in your neighbourhood Cadillac Fairview shopping centre for details.
  2. OFF-SITE: All Sony products are accepted for recycling - at no charge - at 25 non-retail collection sites across Canada. These sites will accept all Sony products, including larger items like televisions and stereos (which cannot be collected at Sony Style stores).
  3. MAIL-IN: All Sony products can be mailed in for recycling. Shipping costs are not covered by the program. You can mail your Sony products to:

Telus Return & Recycle Program

Bring any mobile phone in to your local Telus store for recycling, and they will plant a tree on your behalf! Working in partnership with Tree Canada, thousands of Telus team members plant trees in communities across the country on the company's annual Telus Day of Service.

The Telus Return & Recycle Program accepts mobile phones and accessories irrespective of carrier, free of charge. By returning your mobile phone for recycling, it helps protect the environment by reducing the waste that goes into landfills and preventing hazardous materials from contaminating soil and groundwater.

This unique program is a tremendous success. In 2007, more than 40,000 handsets were diverted from landfills and recycled in an environmentally friendly manner - meaning 40,000 trees were planted across Canada!
